My last Commander/EDH post was about my Good Knight to You, Sirrah deck that I was in the middle of constructing. I’ve tweaked it so I have a bit more card draw as I was finding I was running out of cards quickly due to the low casting cost of the majority of my creatures and other spells. But it is done and I’ve used it several times. In a one on one duel, it’s pretty aggressive and can easily destroy the other player quickly.
Anyway, this post is about my next endeavor, an Exalted deck headed by Rafiq of the Many. The main win condition is to make Rafiq unblockable and using the Exalted mechanic, pump him up and win with 2 swings of Commander damage. With Commander Damage, I only need to damage my opponent with 21 points of damage. All by himself, with Exalt and Double Strike, he’s going to do 8points of Commander Damage if he’s unblockable. Even if Rafiq can’t do it, I’ve got multiple ways to make creatures unblockable and hence swing for some serious damage.

Obviously, I’ve done a lot more background work before posting this deck, unlike the Orzhov Knight decklist. Some of the cards I still question. I also question how well this is actually going to work. I just won’t know until I build it and play it. This is probably as close to a finished deck list as I’m going to get though so I don’t plan on publishing an updated version. Maybe some edits if needed, but no whole new post. I figured my Knight deck was going to take until the end of the year and I finally finished it in October, so pretty close. This deck is going to take most of 2019 to assemble, as money will be tight next year due to all our hospital stuff this year.
There is going to be a lot of proxy’ing going on, as I am NOT going to be playing with my actual dual lands, nor with cards like Noble Hierarch or any other $60+ cards. If my fellow player is ok with it, I might use proxy cards for any card I don’t yet own just to test the deck.
Sadly, I don’t feel nearly as inspired about the Deck Name (Get Salted, I’m Exalted just seems a bit braggadocio) as I did with my knight deck. “Exalt” or some form of that has to be in the title since the Exalt mechanic is what everything is based on. I might even have to enlist Mrs B’s creative powers to help me out!
If anyone has suggestions for card changes, feel free to let me know. Cheers!
Geekiness at work…and my favourite. To be a geek is to go into the tiny details of (some) stuff. The best kind.
See, I’m the one learning a lot from your blog. Not the other way around…

For what it’s worth, I like “Get Salted, I’m Exalted” for a deck name. Who cares if it sounds arrogant, you’ve done the work and now you go all in with a combative name like they do with horses at the Kentucky Derby, something like “Thunder Painting the Sky” or “Irish War Cry” 😛

Thanks.
It usually helps that I have at least half a can of Bang in me when I play commander and that amount of caffeine really jazzes me up…

I love the artwork on these cards ❤
I tried playing Magic with the actual cards, but i was always confused what does what and when… had some better luck with the online game tho 😀

I included a lot more pictures this time because I realized most of my readers aren’t magic players, so they’d like something nice to look at.
In most cases, I gave Mrs B a choice of 3 options and let her decide which one to put up for each picture. Definitely allowed a more visual side to come forth instead of just card mechanics.
MTG is definitely confusing to start. It doesn’t help if you start playing with someone who wants to be competitive instead of actually helping you play the game. I hate competitive magic players, grrrrrr…

Ahhh those full-blown pictures of cards makes me nostalgic about card games. Beautiful artwork too. What’s the most expensive (as in how much too) do you own? 😮 How much are you willing to pay at most for any card nowadays? 😀

I know, isn’t some of that art just gorgeous? I’m sad that the cards are so tiny now in real life 😦
The most expensive I own, and paid for, is for a dual land called Volcanic Island. It ran me about $400. There are 10 dual lands and I own 9 of them. The final one is called Underground Sea and it runs between $450-600 on a cheap day. That is my next acquisition. After that, 20-30 is what I’m willing to pay now, unless it just isn’t going to ever get that low. A lot of “investors” have turned magic into a money game and so cards that are only a couple of years old can be as much as 100+ due to fake scarcity due to “investors” hoarding that particular card.
That being said, I’m looking at two cards right now, Noble Hierarch, and Teferi, Hero of Dominaria and each of them is running between 45-60. I might have to bite the bullet if I really want them in my deck.

Sweet Christmas! If I was a robber, I know what I’d go for hahahaha And yep… Turning innocent games into an almost pay-for-win thing is sad, but hell.. We live in a world that lives on money and its ten-thousand uses.

Probably have close to 2-3K in those 9 dual lands I own. They’re all protected in uv protected hard cases. A silly piece of cardboard. Sigh…

If you had a pc, I’d recommend the digital version, Arena. But it hasn’t gone to android or ios yet. Heck, they haven’t even done it for mac either. But the game itself I love, so much fun…
