I was completely bored. And I shouldn’t have been. Some of the side characters had gotten thrown in a top level prison to find a genius tactician and the main characters, when I stopped, had just tried to rob an army vault. It should have been wicked exciting. Instead, I found myself wondering what the temperature outside was.
This is exactly what happened to me in the first book the first time around and I just figured it was me. Well, lesson learned. This is all on the author for boring me to death. Nothing bad, not even bad writing or anything I can say “No, I will not accept that”, just plain old boring boringness.
I sentence this writer to be cast out into the outer darkness where there is wailing and gnashing of teeth for the terrible sin of boring me. * bangs gavel * Case dismissed!
Just out of curiosity: is this gavel ALSO made from your enemy’s skull, like the iron? 😉

Nahhh, the gavel is made from their fossilized spine dipped in adamantium 😉

This has happened to me before over on Lashaan’s site. The site sometimes doesn’t recognize my wp creds and I have to refresh it.

Outer darkness must be a boring place, if that’s where all the bores go. But then bores don’t really know they’re boring, so maybe they’re having a good time?

A bore is also one of the most self-absorbed people. So they pay no attention to anyone else and want all the attention for themselves. A place filled with a crowd of them is going to be horrible. For them because no one is paying attention to THEM and for everyone else, well, because of the bores 😀

A heinous crime committed, boring books are the pits.

At least with a book that I hate I get a good rant out of it. But this? It’s like eating oatmeal while knowing that the next plate over has yummy vegetable fried rice and chicken fingers, with duck sauce!

I always knew Scotland was a desert wasteland that no sane person would want to live in 😉

Love how you dont even care to share the synopsis for what the book is about. Boring books are the worst

I literally stopped reading one saturday and looked out the window wondering if it was really as warm as it looked (it was sunny out). If a book can’t even compete with sunshine, well, that IS pretty boriing 😀

Thanks Tales. It really was that boring 😦
I’m just glad I didn’t try to tough it out to the end and ending up regretting the time wasted.

Oh dear. Boring books are the worst. Not that this was on my radar, or anywhere near it, but I shall avoid it should it ever be in my general proximity

She has a new trilogy out that I was thinking about trying but after this, not going to be touching it with a ten foot pole!

LOL, the outer darkness would be a crowded place if I exiled every author who has ever bored me to its depths. Sorry it didn’t work out, but kudos for trying to stick with it!

I know exactly how you feel.
I suffered through 28 hours (or there abouts) of The Priory of the Orange Tree audio book. That had me feeling much the same way. It also had horrible overacting from the narrator.
I was going to say ‘fingers crossed your next read is better’ … but so long as you get to 38% it can’t very well be much worse

I don’t know what I would have done if this had been audio 😦
Thanks 🙂

I know Megan O’Keefe for her SF series, which I found very intriguing, so I’m now wondering if Fantasy might not be her proverbial cup of tea: in a way I felt compelled to make a comparison with Lois McMaster Bujold, whose Vorkosigan SF series I totally love, while I could not finish her first Fantasy novel I tried…

I had tried the first book a couple of years ago and wasn’t impressed. So when everyone started raving about her new SF trilogy I wanted to give this a go. But I just don’t like her writing style so I’m going to have to pass on that SF one as well….

Certainly feeling better about axing this from my To-Read list recently…

If it’s not meant to be, it’s not meant to be! Now you did surprise me in trying to continue with this series though hahah Boredom of the first book would’ve stopped me right there normally!

and normally that would have been enough for me too. But I was really interested in her new trilogy (which I don’t think is finished yet) so figured a do-over would help me make up my mind. It certainly did! 😀

Always glad to share my opinion. If I can keep one person from wasting their time on a bad book, then it’s all worth it.
