Ahhhh, another Arcane Casebook story. I’d read these for the covers alone but thankfully Willis tells a good story too. I thought about saving this large version of the cover for my Cover Love section for next month’s Roundup but I couldn’t hold on that long. So here you go! ๐
Storywise, Capital Murder seems to be chugging right along with all the previous installments.
I completely agree on the cover: it’s amazing! ๐

Next to Kinuko Craft’s artwork for Patricia McKillips’ covers, these are my favorite ๐

Is she a zombie of some kind?

Nah, she’s one of the Sorcerous Six, the top 6 most powerful sorcerers in the United States. I guess her eyes go pure white when she’s using her power?

That’s a relief, I thought there was something wrong with her! Think one of the X men gals has the same problem with her eyes going all milky…

Yep, Storm is who you’re thinking of.
The only thing wrong with this sorceress is that she’s working for the FBI ๐

Indeed. Personally, I’d like to be a pizza taste tester. I haven’t seen any offers for that line of work though ๐ฆ

Iโve been dabbling as an unpaid intern pizza taste tester and itโs a rewarding shift.

Sounds like a great way to get your foot in the door. When cinemas collapse, and hollywood implodes and bollywood explodes by the power going to its head, and chinawood doesn’t materialize, you can always give up the movie thing and become a Professional Pizza Taste Tester.

Love a classy fedora.

If I could pull it off, I’d be wearing one. I tried one once though, I couldn’t make it work for me ๐ฆ

No! I don’t believe it. Must of been a bad fedora.

I know, I know. It’s hard to believe. But the mirror didn’t lie….

It is a great cover. The chap in the fedora is using Dr.Strange magic and the lady using storm magic, they’ve been to the Marvel studios I think.

It would not surprise me one bit if Willis has picked and chosen just that kind of thing ๐
Now that I’m reading the Nero Wolfe mystery series, I’m realizing the home “headquarters” featured in this Arcane Casebook series is based on Wolfe’s house.
Which makes me wonder what other literary references the author has tucked into the stories ๐

It will be fun spotting them!

Dude always has a different coloured magic thingy. Do they indicate the element he uses or something? ๐ฎ

Huh, I never noticed that. I suspect it is artistic license by the woman who does the covers.
Alex Lockerby’s magic is based on runes, and while things like materials matter, I don’t know if changes the colors of the runes themselves. I’ll have to keep an eye out now ๐

I am enjoying how light and easy it is to read. Nothing heavy at all.
