Only a few titles have changed since I originally posted this in 2018. Much like my other Repost articles, this is more for those who have started following me in the last year or two than those who have been around for a spell.
★★★★★★★★★★★
(I got the idea for a 100 Book List from The Book Jotter. If you read her post, you’ll see that I’ve changed things a tiny bit)
The following list of books are ones that have affected me through the years. Good and Bad. While my About page is a good look at me as a man, this is a good look at me as a reader. These aren’t organized in any particular order nor is this list in any way a comprehensive list of all the books I’ve read. If you see a majority of books that I hate and you love, or that you hate and I loved, think long and hard about following me.
Books I have Hated: 50
Earthman Jack vs the Ghost Planet
The Boy and the Peddler of Death
Cadman’s Gambit/Sword of the Archon
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
The Darkness that Comes Before
Books I have Loved: 50
The Bible
What Adventists Believe
Science Fiction Hall of Fame Vol 1
Ready, Set, Hut (Eyeshield 21 #37)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000
Count of Monte Cristo (abridged)
Good looks at you as a man and as a reader. What other looks are on offer?

I don’t know, some of your hates are on my loves list, but I can hope that someday you’ll acquire a more refined taste.

I concur wholeheartedly with your sentiment. I feel exactly the same way towards you 😀

I enjoy the books I have read in your loved list and plan on someday reading the rest of the books in your loved list. Have to admit there are two books on your hated list that have been on my “to be read” list for years, but will now probably never get around to reading. 😋

Dune 7 was written by Baby Herbert and Kevin Jackass Anderson. So you’re not missing out at all there 😀
As for Sanderson, well, my recent re-read of Mistborn has made me realize his writing doesn’t age up.

Generally, I can’t remember the books I’ve hated. I remember reasons for hating books, though, such as adultery painted as a good thing, or just incredibly wooden characters…usually written by male authors who can’t or don’t care to depict females as real people. Oh, I remember a specific one. I hated a book club book called The Red Tent for many, many reasons.

And that’s why I rate and review the books I read 😀 Because it is very easy to forget.

This is a pretty interesting idea of a post to repost here and then! I might have to think about doing something like this. It reminds me of those “favourites” posts you did once when I asked about the books you would recommend. Thanks for sharing these! 😀

Thanks 🙂
I feel like I’ve got enough of a back catalog of posts now that reposting old ones is a good idea. With so many people cycling through, I can’t assume that everyone who follows me now will seek this type of post out on their own.
I’d actually forgotten that series of “Favorites” until you mentioned it. That might not be a bad idea to repost too. See? If I can’t remember, how are others going to? 😀
Plus, I don’t have to type extra, ahahahahaa…..

I’ve only read 2 on your list, one from each camp! Nice to see Mrs. Bookstooge in your comments section. 😊

Actually found a coupple more, I’ve read Catch 22 & The Great Gatsby from your hate list and Dune & The Hobbit from your love list. I liked them all in their own way.

I only read the first 3 Dune stories, didn’t get to that one.

This gets worse and worse. I don’t know what I”m going to do now. I’ll have to go consult with the rest of the WP4 I guess.

The Great Gatsby and Catch 22 were pretty good last time I checked in on them. FacT!

You also think that women having sex with cars is good ala Titane, so I’ll leave it to the audience to decide if your “good” is actually any good 😀

I’ve had 12 days off work so have made the most of some quality reading time! I’ll slow down now, back to work tomorrow.

An interesting curation! I’m glad to see that most of these books are where they belong, although I would question the wisdom of opening Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in the first place 😉

In my defense, I was young and relatively inexperienced. Plus, who doesn’t want to experiment occasionally as a young person?
I know better now though!
And since I didn’t finish it, that’s like not inhaling, right?

All I can say is thank goodness for Esslemont. He brought the fun back into the story telling….

An interesting collection! I hate some of the books from your hate list, but love others (such as Catch 22); the same goes for your love list – Sanderson and Jordan are definitely on my not-to-read list but there are some here that are on my all-time-favourites list 😀

I’m currently reading through Sanderson’s early work and it is quite eye opening to me. Amazing how one changes in 13+ years 😉
