Looking at some of his works through google, it wouldn’t surprise me if the artist took some inspiration from him…

Did they ever change the basic game rules further down the line or did they keep all that untouched in MTG? 😮

The rules have definitely changed as the game became more complex. In some ways they simplified the way cards and people interact but it is still wicked complex and I’d not feel comfortable playing against a rules lawyer kind of magic player 😀
But the basic rules are essentially still the same.
For me, the biggest change when I started playing again was that they got rid of what is called mana burn. It used to be that if you tapped land for mana and couldn’t use it up by the end of your turn, whatever was left would deal you that much damage. There were whole strategies built around forcing other players to tap land for mana they couldn’t use so as to make them damage themselves. But the pansies at Wizards decided that was too complex or mean or something so they got rid of it.
